A Completely Inadequate Video on the Death of Sulli

Time for me to upload my video regarding the death of Sulli. I dont think that my video is good enough for the whole event because It is not going to be filled with any super emotional thoughts or anything about what she meant to me. I still do have swirling thoughts that I wanted to share with you about it though.

  1. Here's what I recommend to people who constantly spew shit and hate on anybody, not just Kpop idols. Type out whatever it is you want to say, but delete their name and put your name. Send it if you feel comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable with it, imagine how it must feel to be the person it was meant to be about. A person that you don't even know (if a celebrity).

  2. That the media play a role in all such incidents at least reinforcing, has already been commented by someone else. I would just like to add that this is not real "journalism". These are almost all hobby writers. As a positive example I take a writer about LOONA on Allkpop. He just summarized what went wrong during their Butterfly Comepack phase to have everything in one place. Just as well someone can write an article about e.g. Mamamoo and blackfacing and the readers don't even bother to check the facts. They did it once but not twice as often claimed. But such a hobby journalism is only possible because there is no one, no editor-in-chief, who releases such contributions. Everybody can write what he wants. He only needs one account.

To draw the line to Sulli, the problem is certainly the people who attacked Sulli because of her feminine side (remember that South Korea is still a very misogynistic country), or look or whatever but worse are the media that everyone takes for granted. The writers don't even come from South Korea. They sit on their sofa in the USA and throw dirt at Korean women and girls and get likes and further recognition for it. Nothing will change even after the Sulli law, because you can't reach them from there, or does someone seriously believe that the Allkpop, Buzzfeed and Koreaboo writers can be impressed with such a law?
But at least we can influence the people around us by drawing their attention to the mistakes made in such journalism and if they themselves are such bullies that we tell them they are wrong.

  3. You make some good points. I think a lot of people overlook the influence the media has on people (and even themselves) and how it can sway their opinion on something. I'm reminded of the way the media in the west treated Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. It really seemed like they wanted to create that sort of "dumpster fire" situation around Sulli, perhaps because she didn't quite fit the mold and that made her an easy target.

Its good to see that you're reflecting on your own position as an influencer, so to speak, and I hope others will do the same. Actually you were the first person I thought of when I read the news, because I had just been catching up on your reviews a day or two earlier, and had been thinking 'i hope we don't see any more faces on the bottom of your videos.
