  1. The only Thing you can’t buy as a customer are the conti tubes and maybe the 1mm increase PRO stem. You can build the exact same f12 as Bernal (if you have the money). The other parts in likes of a data transmitter or numberholder you don’t need as an amateur

  2. I don't know about the last bits. Computer mount, chain catcher, electrical tape….
    Many bikes come w/ chain catchers installed on the frame, computer mounts (K edge is likely a sponsor) is going to be a thing for anyone installing a computer, and electrical tape on the water bottle cages is just a trick of the trade to not lose water bottles. That's just because some cages are superior to others.

    Carbon wheels and/or carbon bars are becoming common on mid tier bikes, and to be honest, I'm building a set of AR46 carbon wheels from Light Bicycle right now for under $600 which is pretty close to retail on plenty of Mavic or Stan's production wheelsets.

    Power meters are coming down in price as well, and it wouldn't matter if you were a pro, you could be training for a 300mi charity ride, and using them for a training aid can be very beneficial….though I haven't personally made that leap.

  3. For brakes, I think the whole peloton should have the same whether it’s rim or disc.. you want everyone in a crowd to have the same stopping power

  4. Only the Velon transponder is unique to pro bikes. All the rest, you can install yourself – number holder and tape on the bidon cage. I have a power meter on my bike Pinerello F10. And run a 130 stem. Not even vaguely a pro.

  5. i still have a hard time understanding going for a smaller frame and then forced to run saddle all the way back when its more efficent to have it above the bb or slammed all the way forward

  6. The other difference? Decals. I don’t have my name on my bike – or the names of companies who sponsor me with their money.
