The S1H is the world’s first 6K full frame mirrorless camera. It seems like Panasonic is finally giving us the best that vlog can deliver at a more affordable price point.
In this video-centric review I cover the concerns that I have as a video shooter. There’s really not much to complain about. The image quality and color are fantastic. The IBIS works great. Is there a better camera in this price range? Find out in my next video when I compare the S1H to the Z CAM E2-F6.
I made another short, unlisted video testing the autofocus with the Panasonic PRO 50mm f1.4 lens and the Sigma 45m DG DN lens. Watch it here:

Nice video–some important issues you cover. It really is a great camera–lovely IQ and skin tone—IMO far, far superior to Sony. But Fuji gets pretty close-amazing cameras. Have you used the S1H in combination with the Passport Color checker??
I'd be interested to see how this one stacks up against the S6/F6 by Z-cam.
You could use your mobile phone and lumix sync app via WiFi. It works all resolutions.
I know that the cameras are completely different, but according to the subjective sensations, which I would like to keep and not let go of the S1H, Z F6, BMP6K?
It seemed like 422 10-bit was only available in 4k modes, regardless of PAL or NTSC. Is that correct? Also, your autofocus test was in a fairly low contrast setting which may have had something to do with how badly it was doing. Which isn't to say that otherwise it's a great autofocus camera like a Canon or Sony. Anyway, great video, it's quite a beastly camera for the money
This is a great review! The camera looks so beefy and well built! Would you say that 35mm combo with the camera is a nice combination? Also can you recommend some cheaper glass for this camera?
Unfortunately S1 and S1H have a better AFC with Panasonic L mount lenses than with the Sigmas… were u able to try any of those?
really informative review! cool! Thanks
I dont know if I'm going crazy but with the ibis it looks like there's some noticeable rolling shutter or warping…
You have a great laid-back, but thorough style
Yes please, waiting for that comparison 👍👍👍
Color science and dynamic range on this camera are way above its competitors in the same price range.
Am really impressed about it. Also the sharpening seen on the GH5 is gone.
Great analysis. Going to a Lumix event soon, I wonder if they'll cover the shortcomings you found!
thanks, you mention the "little things" that other big reviewers who just follow their review preset don't. you've taken your time to dive into small details that actually matter big time, to me anyway. waiting for that comparison video, interested in dynamic range and compression artifacts on the s1h under heavy color grading, but that's just me. great work, thanks again!
Great! thank you! Which lens did you use for the AF tests? I wonder what those displays do, when you record externally… Love this camera anyways… it's not perfect but all shortcomings could be seen as known (technical/physical..) limitations meanwhile pushing a few ones further. Will there be a 6k gh6 and a FF counterpart with an organic sensor soon? Sure. Would I enjoy the hell out of this camera using it till then? More then any camera I have used till now it seems.
Looking forward to the F6 comparison.
Thank you very much!
It's always a pleasure watching your videos. Your analysis is rich and incredibly informative. And we benefit, so thank you!
That said, yes the S1H has a few limitations. BUT for a camera that costs $4,000 and offers this much out of such a small body, I have absolutely no complaints.
Once again Panasonic leads the way. My vote, the Panasonic S1H is a camera without peers in it's group and is the camera of 2019 without a doubt.
Is that a side by side with the E2-F6!? 😄
Thank you for the review. The camera still has some pretty serious issues and omissions. Let's hope they can fix them all.
